Surrender explores the sensation of giving in to chaos.

First created as a coloured pencil portrait in 2021, I attempted to paint the same image on canvas in 2025. The process was tedious and tiresome. I had to pivot.

Using my body, cords and a mattress, I enacted the tension between control and chaos, while footage of the original drawing played over me.

In the dance, I found aliveness and carried that energy back into the painting.
